Town Hall
David is a Principal at Town Hall, with decades of experience investing in and co-founding numerous successful healthcare ventures and managing investment funds. Over the last decade, David has established himself as a trusted thought partner and investor to venture
stage entrepreneurs, as well as repeated designer and creator of successful U.S. health technology-enabled service businesses.
David oversees Town Hall’s portfolio as well as all corporate finance aspects of the portfolio, including investment deal structuring and negotiations to ensure Fund IV receives adequate governance rights and minority protections, and portfolio company liquidity events. Given David’s experience building and investing in businesses at Town Hall, Oxeon (as defined herein), Accretive LLC, and the Virgin Group, he works closely with Town Hall’s portfolio company management teams and Board members to execute and refine their strategic initiatives, with a particular focus on talent recruitment and development, enterprise deal shaping, go-to-market strategy, business model refinement, strategy and financing.
David oversees Town Hall’s de novo company creation efforts to design, incubate, and launch purpose-built healthcare companies on behalf of Town Hall, including seven companies co-founded by Town Hall: Eleanor Health, Empassion Health, Hopscotch Health, Strive Health, Suvida Healthcare, Quilted Health and most recently Habitat Health. Previously David led the Oxeon Venture Studio, a team within Oxeon that conceives, designs, and validates new business concepts, to launch purpose-built, or de novo, companies that address unmet market needs across the healthcare sector.
Prior to that, David served as General Partner and CFO of Accretive LLC, a $500 million AUM private investment firm specializing in investing in and building disruptive startup companies. David was also Vice President of Corporate Development with the Virgin Group, where he led the development of Virgin America, the largest de novo company built by the Virgin Group with more than $500 million invested. Earlier in his career, David was an investment banker with Goldman Sachs in London and Sydney. David holds a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) and Bachelor of Commerce from Bond University in Queensland, Australia.
David Whelan led Fund I’s investments in Aetion, Concert Health, Eleanor Health, Quilted Health, Strive Health, Torch Dental and Unite Us; Fund II’s investments in Curana, Empassion Health, Strive Health, Suvida Health and Trusted Health; and Fund III’s investments in Connections, Habitat and Thyme Care.
