Chad Golder is the General Counsel of the American Hospital Association. He joined the AHA in January 2022 after serving as a partner and founding member of the Washington, DC office of Munger, Tolles, and Olson.
Immediately before entering private practice, Mr. Golder served as Deputy Associate Attorney General at the United States Department of Justice. In this role, and as Counsel to the Deputy Attorney General at the start of the Obama Administration, he worked on complex constitutional, statutory, and administrative law issues. Mr. Golder also managed some of the Justice Department’s most consequential litigation. For example, he helped defend the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) in National Federation of Independent Business v. Sebelius, King v. Burwell, and House of Representatives v. Burwell.
Earlier in his career, Mr. Golder served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the Eastern District of Virginia, where he prosecuted fraud and public corruption crimes. He also served as law clerk to The Honorable John Paul Stevens at the United States Supreme Court and Judge Merrick Garland at the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia. He is a graduate of Yale University and Yale Law School.
