Angela Patterson, DNP, FNP-BC, NEA-BC, FAANP
Dr. Patterson is an advanced practice registered nurse, Enterprise CNO, Vice President, and Chief Nurse Practitioner Officer of Retail Health at CVS Health. In her Enterprise CNO role, Angela leads the strategic plan to advance the recruitment, retention, resilience, and recognition of the enterprise’s more than 10,000 nurses. In her Retail Health role, Angela provides clinical and professional practice governance for 2,500 Nurse Practitioners, Physician Associates, and Nurses who staff MinuteClinic’s virtual care practice as well as approximately 900 retail health clinics located across 34 states and the District of Columbia. She also leads a variety of programs focused on Clinical Quality, Patient Experience, Clinical Training & Education, and Care Delivery Workforce Engagement. In addition, Angela has responsibilities that support the broader organization including senior-level membership on key governance committees including Enterprise Patient Safety, Enterprise Women’s Health Steerco, and the Diversity Management Leadership Council.
Before joining CVS Health, Angela spent 20 years as a primary care provider and Clinical Director in an urban-based, family medical practice she co-owned. She also served for 10 years as a principal lecturer and clinical instructor for the Family Nurse Practitioner program in the School for Health Studies at Simmons College in Boston. Angela holds board member appointments with the Convenient Care Association, The Schwartz Center for Compassionate Healthcare, and NursesMC. She is also a member of the AARP Champion Nursing Coalition.
During her more than 17 years with CVS Health, MinuteClinic has grown from several hundred to approximately 900 clinics and has increased care delivery volume from fewer than one million to more than 55 million patient visits. In addition, the organization successfully achieved ANCC Pathway to Excellence® designation for nursing practice excellence. Angela received the 2018 AANP Sharp Cutting-Edge Award for her exemplary work in nursing organizational leadership and was inducted in 2019 as a Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).
Angela received her BSN from Simmons College in 1985 and worked as an RN at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston. In 1988, she received her MSN and certification as a Nurse Practitioner from Simmons College with distinction. Angela received her Executive DNP from MGH Institute of Health Professions in 2016 and was awarded the institution’s Bette Ann Harris Distinguished Alumni Award in 2023.
