Cristina Contreras, a native of the Dominican Republic, is a dedicated healthcare leader with a passion for improving community health. With over 29 years of progressive executive experience in inpatient, ambulatory, clinical and ancillary hospital operations, Cristina is a respected figure in New York City Health + Hospitals, the country’s largest municipal healthcare system. Starting as a caseworker, she rose through various leadership roles and was appointed CEO at NYC Health + Hospitals/Lincoln in 2024, following her tenure as CEO of NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan from 2021–2024. Cristina has expanded access to care for underserved communities, championed talent development and driven operational improvements, all while fostering a culture of authenticity, kindness and transparency. Her commitment to public service extends beyond her hospital role, with leadership positions on the boards of the National Dominican Day Parade, the Alzheimer’s Association NY Chapter, and R.A.I.N. Total Care, Inc. Her contributions have earned her numerous honors, including the Government Service Leadership Award and recognition as a Hero of Hope by the NYC Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
