Dr. James Leyva is a Veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served as an Aerographer’s Mate (Weather forecaster) from 2001-2006. After leaving military service, Dr. Leyva began his VA career as a Clinical Audiologist with the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis, Indiana in 2015. After completing several improvement projects for the clinic and within the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Service, Dr. Leyva was selected as the Chief of Audiology in 2018 and is a 2019 graduate of VISN 10 Leadership Development Institute (LDI). Relocating to Colorado, Dr. Leyva served as a Systems Redesign Coordinator for the Rocky Mountain Regional Medical Center in Aurora, Colorado before accepting a role within the VISN 19 Rocky Mountain Network Office, where he served as a Health System Specialist and Executive Assistant to the VISN 19 Chief Nursing Officer. In his current role, Dr. Leyva serves as a Health Systems Specialist as a member of the High Reliability Organization (HRO) Support Team within the Veterans Health Administration Central Office (VHACO). Dr. Leyva holds a Bachelor of Arts in Theology from Biola University (2009), a Clinical Doctorate in Diagnostic & Rehabilitative Audiology (Au.D.) from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (2015) and a Master of Business Administration with an emphasis in Healthcare Management (MBA) from Western Governor’s University (2020). Dr. Leyva is also an alumnus of Leadership VA (2023).
