Sanford G. Duke MD, MBA, FACHE, is the executive vice-president and chief clinical officer for Atrium Health Navicent. The system has1,000 beds for medical, surgical, rehabilitation and hospice purposes in Central Georgia, including a 637 bed, nationally verified Level I Trauma Center, and the region’s only children's hospital. As a member of the executive leadership team, Dr. Duke is responsible for providing clinical, operational, and strategic leadership necessary to deliver quality care across the enterprise. He has leadership responsibility for the Atrium Health Navicent physician group which includes more than 240 providers, graduate medical education, service lines, Central Georgia Health Network, a 1000-physician clinically integrated network and TC2, a Medicare accountable care organization with nearly 20,000 attributed lives.
Dr. Duke has more than 25 years of experience in healthcare, joining the executive team at Atrium Health Navicent in February 2020. Previously, he served on the Atrium Health Navicent Board of Directors, chairing the Quality and Safety Committee, and on the Atrium Health Board of Commissioners. Prior to his role in administration, Dr. Duke served as a private practice physician for nearly two decades.
Dr. Duke holds a master’s in business administration from Emory University, Goizuetta School of Business and is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. He earned his Bachelor of Science from Duke University and medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia. He completed residency in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Wake Forest University.
Dr. Duke also serves as vice-chair of the Georgia Chapter of ACHE, chairman of the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Georgia, and Vice-President of Fund Development for Boy Scouts of America, Central Georgia Council. He has 3 adult children and enjoys travel and outdoor activities including fishing, hiking and hunting.
