Senior Vice President of Strategy & Planning
HCA Gulf Coast Division
Chad Johnston joined HCA Healthcare’s Gulf Coast division in 2022 as Senior Vice President, Strategy and Planning. In that role he is responsible for leading the Division’s strategic planning processes, spearheading key projects within the Division, and overseeing major capital.
Prior to HCA, Chad worked at Penn Medicine as Associate Vice President, Strategic Decision Support. As SDS’s head, Chad was responsible for financial and market analysis for the health system. Chad and his team worked extensively with Penn’s executive and clinical leadership on a wide range of issues including market strategy, facility planning, service line and program financial performance, new program development, cost and budget management, clinical value improvement, and operations management.
Chad has broad experience in consulting and healthcare. Prior to joining Penn, he was a Manager in Bain & Company’s healthcare practice and a Director/Team Leader in Pfizer’s Portfolio and Decision Analysis group. He also has wide consulting experience outside healthcare, both at Bain and in defense with Vector Research.
He holds Masters degrees in Business (Dartmouth) and Operations Research (Michigan) and a BS in Physics (Michigan).
