As president and chief operating officer of Impact4Health, Maria focuses on healthcare innovations, strategy, and community engagement to reduce healthcare disparities. She has led the research for the Inclusion Scorecard for Population Health™ and the Inclusive Leader 360™, each of which is designed to advance health equity and create a culture of inclusion that meets the needs of diverse patient populations. Maria also served two terms on the board of trustees for Alameda Health System with a membership on the Human Resource and Quality and Professional Services committees. Maria is a frequent speaker on health equity, culturally effective care and outreach to historically marginalized communities. She currently is a faculty for one of ACHE's Choice Programs, "More Than Words: Leveraging Governance and Partnerships to Advance Health Equity. A graduate of the University of Texas, she holds a Ph.D. in community psychology and is a Danforth and American Psychological Association Minority Fellow. In March 2019, she was inducted into the Alameda County Women’s Hall of Fame for her work in healthcare and in 2024 Maria received the Maestro Award from Latino Leader Magazine for her work with nonprofits. Maria is on the Board of Directors for one of the largest clubs in the Automobile Association of America serving six western states.
