Sr. Vice President, Patient Care Services/Chief Nurse Executive
Rosemary (Rosi) Wurster, DNP, RN, MPH, NEA-BC, CEN, is senior vice president, patient care services and chief nurse executive. With a clinical background in emergency nursing and extensive operational leadership, she joined Bayhealth in July 2022.
Dr. Wurster is committed to creating cultures of excellence in nursing practice. In her multi-faceted role, Dr. Wurster leads the organization, coordination, administration, and operational planning for nursing practice and care delivery, pharmacy services, team member and patient education, and capacity management across the system. Dr. Wurster is also the administrative leader of surgical services, women’s and children’s services, emergency and trauma services as well as inpatient care. Dr. Wurster is the accountable executive for leadership in patient experience and team member wellbeing.
Dr. Wurster has expertise in leading initiatives in operational excellence, interprofessional wellness, capacity management, enterprise transfer and staffing centers, and clinical effectiveness. She has been instrumental in helping to reduce hospital and observation length of stay, reduce staff turnover, enhance team member engagement and stabilize the workforce.
Dr. Wurster has held operational leadership roles in inpatient, outpatient, and emergency care settings and has served in programmatic leadership roles at the system level. Her practice environments have spanned community hospitals and health systems as well as large, academic medical centers. She has published and presented on various leadership topics including professional practice model development and patient experience, workforce optimization and clinical data strategies.
Her research and practice interests include nurse leader development and wellness, racial and ethnic diversity among nurse leaders, and systems thinking in quality and safety performance improvement.
Dr. Wurster is a member of a variety of professional organizations and is and advisory board member of several nursing education programs in the state of Delaware. She holds an appointment as affiliated associate professor at the Univeristy of Delaware.
Dr. Wurster has a doctorate in nursing practice from Drexel University and earned a bachelors of science in nursing and masters of public health from West Chester Univeristy. She is a board-certified advanced nurse executive and a fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives.
Dr. Wurster is committed to supporting the emotional health of communities and of women, having coached women and couples through her church affiliation. She has served on the leadership committee for a Christian program for high school students, YoungLife. In her downtime, she can be found reading a book, walking her chocolate lab with her family, or planning her next garden adventure.
