Christy Harris Lemak, PhD, FACHE is Professor in the Department of Health Services Administration, School of Health Professions and Deputy Director, Marnix E. Heersink Institute for Healthcare Innovation, Heersink School of Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. She also serves as the Executive Vice President, Research and Learning at the Scottsdale Institute, a non-profit collaborative that inspires and convenes thought-leading member health systems to leverage information and technology to create effective, affordable and equitable healthcare.
Christy teaches and conducts research in the areas of health care leadership, with an emphasis on how leadership and organizational factors can lead to high performance. Her focus is on how leaders can leverage Artificial Intelligence and other technologies and innovations to drive positive change in hospitals and health systems. She currently serves on the boards of Community Hospital Corporation (Plano, TX) and the Alabama Healthcare Hall of Fame. She is past Chair of Chair of the Association of University Programs in Health Administration and the Academy of Management Health Care Management Division.
The 2022 recipient of the Gary L. Filerman Prize for Educational Leadership from AUPHA, Christy was previously on the faculty of the University of Michigan where she directed the Griffith Leadership Center and was the Michael O. and Barbara Bice Professor of Health Services Research, Management and Policy at the University of Florida. Christy holds a PhD from the University of Michigan, MHA and MBA degrees from the University of Missouri-Columbia, and a BS in Health Planning and Administration from the University of Illinois.
