Dr. Wright is a Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine, Division of Anesthesiology, Critical Care, and Pain Medicine at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Louisiana-Lafayette. She is also a graduate of Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX, where she received her medical degree. She completed her residency training in the Baylor College of Medicine Department of Anesthesiology Residency program. She furthered her training as a cardiothoracic anesthesiologist at the Texas Heart Institute in Houston, TX.
Dr. Wright's career as an anesthesiologist spans over 15 years, with her early years marked by her academic and clinical contributions at Baylor College of Medicine. She specialized in cardiothoracic and trauma anesthesiology and served as the Director of the BCM Learning Community in the Undergraduate Medical Education and Student Affairs Departments. Her time at Baylor College of Medicine laid the foundation for her subsequent roles and achievements in the field.
After leaving Baylor College of Medicine in 2017, she transitioned to MD Anderson Cancer Center in the Department of Anesthesiology, Critical Care, and Pain Medicine. Dr. Wright’s academic interests remain focused on the professional development of academic physicians and ensuring the core competency of professionalism education is integrated into practicing physicians' careers. Her current role as Executive Director of the MD Anderson Center of Professionalism, Support, and Success in the Academic Affairs/Chief Academic Office at MD Anderson allows her to support the development of a culture of professionalism at MD Anderson. Dr. Wright is also committed to ensuring faculty engagement and providing education that promotes the development of all faculty within the institution.
Dr. Wright's dedication to health policy is evident in her involvement with the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) and the Texas Society of Anesthesiologists (TSA). Her leadership roles, including serving as Treasurer on the Board of Directors of the American Society of Anesthesiologists, Past President of the Texas Society of Anesthesiologists, and a delegate to the American Medical Association, underscore her commitment to improving patient perioperative care through health policy.
