Dr. Susan M. Pollart, Ruth E. Murdaugh Professor of Family Medicine, leads the Offices of Faculty Affairs and Faculty Development in the University of Virginia School of Medicine. Dr. Pollart is involved faculty life from recruitment to retirement and leads activities in faculty professional development. She is active in the AAMC’s Group on Faculty Affairs, Group in Diversity and Inclusion (participating as faculty for the Health Care Executive Diversity and Inclusion Certificate Program), and teaching in the AAMC Early Career Seminar for Women Faculty. She serves as faculty for the Hedwig van Ameringen Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine® (ELAM®) program.
Dr. Pollart’s scholarly focus is on faculty engagement and satisfaction. Working with data from the AAMC StandPoint Survey she has studied drivers of faculty satisfaction, predictors of faculty attrition, and issues related to part-time work in academic medicine.
In 2023, Dr. Pollart received the AAMC Group on Faculty Affairs (GFA) Carole J. Bland Phronesis Award and in 2024, the Hedwig van Ameringen Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine® (ELAM®) and Executive Leadership in Health Care (ELH) programs honored Dr. Pollart with the Laura Lynch ELAM/ELH Community Impact Award.
Dr. Pollart continues to practice and teach family medicine.
