Dr. Guffey is a Pediatric Anesthesiologist and Chief Medical Information Officer at Children’s Colorado. He is an Associate Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Colorado. Dr. Guffey joined Children’s Colorado in 2009 as an anesthesiology fellow and has served in multiple medical administrative roles in quality, operations, and informatics. He is active in the community and serves as the Chair of the Board of Directors for Contexture, the Health Information Exchange for Colorado and Arizona, the Medical Director of the American Society of Anesthesiologist’s patient safety team and a board member of the Anesthesia Quality Institute, past President of the Colorado Chapter of the Health Information Management System’s Society (HIMSS), and past member of the Children’s Hospital Association Patient Safety Team. Dr. Guffey has delivered over 80 national invited presentations and written numerous articles and book chapters on the topics of informatics, quality and hospital operations. Dr. Guffey earned his Medical Doctorate and Chemical Engineering degrees at the University of Michigan, Master's in Healthcare Administration at the University of Minnesota, and trained in anesthesiology at the University of California, San Francisco. He is board certified in Anesthesiology, Pediatric Anesthesiology and Clinical Informatics. Patrick and his spouse Dr. Jennifer Knowles have three children (the “lemonade boys” who legalized kids selling lemonade in Colorado) and live in Denver.
