Richard Nesto, M.D., is a leading cardiologist, researcher, scholar and healthcare administrator who serves as a physician executive consultant for WittKieffer’s Academic Medicine and Health Sciences Practice. Dr. Nesto lends his expertise and leadership insight to the recruitment of senior academic medical center and health system executives.
Most recently, Dr. Nesto served as chief medical officer for Beth Israel Lahey Health, where he led strategic medical affairs and set the system agenda for quality, safety and patient experience. Prior to the formation of BILH, Dr. Nesto had been interim CEO of Lahey Health. At Lahey Health he also served as CMO of Lahey Hospital & Medical Center, Chair of Cardiovascular Medicine and Chair of Medicine.
A professor of medicine at Tufts University, Dr. Nesto is internationally known for his advancements in the pathophysiology and treatment of heart disease in patients with diabetes mellitus. He is an accomplished scholar with more than 300 peer-reviewed papers and abstracts.
Dr. Nesto received his medical degree from Tufts University and his undergraduate degree from Harvard College. He completed a residency in medicine at Strong Memorial Hospital at the University of Rochester, and fellowships in cardiology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School.
