Dr. Michael Anderson has served in a number of important health care and policy leadership roles: PICU Medical Director, Chief Medical Officer, Children’s Hospital President, Professor of Pediatrics, and Senior Advisor for the Federal COVID response.
He spent the majority of his career as a Pediatric Intensivist and Health Care Administrator at Case Western Reserve and UH/Rainbow Babies and Children’s in Cleveland, serving as Chief Medical Officer for the 15 hospital UH system from 2008 to 2016.
Dr. Anderson served as the inaugural President of UCSF Benioff Children's Hospitals from 2016 - 2020, where he focused on program integration, leadership recruitment, and novel program development.
At the start of the pandemic, Dr Anderson was recruited to join Operation Warp Speed as a senior advisor at HHS/ASPR Washington DC, focused on distribution of COVID therapeutics and helping drive a pediatric-focused response agenda.
Throughout his career, Dr Anderson has worked to catalyze leadership development in health care, primarily focused on physician leadership. In Cleveland, he formed the UH-CMC physician leadership academy and CMO fellowship and likewise started a similar program at Children’s National Hospital in 2022. He joined the consulting firm WittKieffer as a Principal in the Academic Medicine Practice in 2023.
