Eric Deaton has served for over three decades in leadership roles in Tennessee, Virginia, and South Carolina. Prior to his role with Ballad, Deaton was executive vice president and chief operating officer for three years at Wellmont. Prior to joining Wellmont in 2014, Deaton held the title of market president for LifePoint Hospitals, where he directed the collective operations of Danville Regional Medical Center and Memorial Hospital of Martinsville in the south-central Virginia division. He also served as president and chief executive officer of Danville Regional from 2010 until 2013. During his tenure, Danville Regional opened seven new clinics, recruited 50 physicians and increased primary care activities. Earlier in his career, Deaton was the market chief executive officer for North Side Hospital, Johnson City Specialty Hospital and Northeast Tennessee Rehabilitation Hospital, facilities of Columbia/HCA later acquired by Johnson City Medical Center. Deaton was on the board of directors for the Virginia Board of Health, currently is chairman of the board of Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association and the Federation of American Hospitals as well as many community organizations in South Central Virginia.
Deaton earned a bachelor's degree in business administration from Milligan University, a master's degree in business administration from Bristol College, and a master's degree in healthcare administration from the University of Cincinnati. Deaton was honored with the University of Cincinnati: College of Allied Health Sciences Outstanding Alumni Award. He is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. Deaton is also vice chairman of Tennessee Independent Colleges and Universities and trustee for Milligan University.
