Carol Kemper is the Senior Vice President, Performance Excellence (retired) at Children’s Mercy – Kansas City.
In this role Carol led a group of experts all focused on continuous improvement of care, services, and patient/family experience. Specific departments within Performance Excellence include Quality & Safety & Human Factors, Performance Improvement, Evidenced Based Practice, Simulation, Accreditation/Regulatory, and Infection Prevention. Carol was also responsibility for implementation and advancement of the organization’s lean journey including the strategy deployment of the organization’s True North Pillar metrics. Her work focuses on establishing strategies to achieve high reliability, cultivating a culture of safety, implementing methods to eliminate patient and staff harm events, and partnering with patients and families on quality and safety initiatives. Nationally she served on the Child Health Patient Safety Organization (PSO) Board and the Children’s Hospital Association Quality Board of Directors.
Dr. Kemper received her BSN from the University of Cincinnati, her MS in maternal/child nursing from Boston College, and her PhD in nursing from the University of Kansas.
