Dr. Stephen A. Ferrara, DNP, FNP-BC, FAAN, FAANP, is a Nurse Practitioner with over 20 years of diverse clinical experience. Currently, he serves as the President of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) and is the inaugural Associate Dean of Artificial Intelligence and Professor at Columbia University School of Nursing. His clinical background includes college health, correctional health, retail health, men's health, and occupational health, showcasing a wide-ranging expertise in patient care.
Dr. Ferrara has held numerous leadership positions throughout his career, including Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Doctoral Nursing Practice. As the former Executive Director of the Nurse Practitioner Association New York State, he was instrumental in advocating for policy changes that enhanced the autonomy of Nurse Practitioners, leading to the landmark NP Modernization Act in 2022. This pivotal law eliminated the requirement for collaborative agreements between experienced NPs and physicians, granting full practice authority for Nurse Practitioners in New York State.
Dedicated to advancing healthcare quality, Dr. Ferrara is passionate about integrating healthcare technology and evidence-based practices into everyday clinical care. His contributions have earned him numerous accolades, including the AANP's New York State Award for Clinical Excellence. He has also been inducted as a Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, the National Academies of Practice, and the American Academy of Nursing, reflecting his commitment to leadership, advocacy, and the future of healthcare.
