St. Bernards Medical Center
Mr. Michael Givens, FACHE, is the COO/Administrator at St. Bernards Medical Center in Jonesboro, Arkansas. He joined St. Bernards in 2001, and became Administrator of the Medical Center in 2010. Prior to becoming Administrator, Michael served in several leadership roles at St. Bernards. Michael oversees the strategic operations of the 454 Bed Flagship for St. Bernards Healthcare, an independent Catholic Healthcare System serving 23 counties in Northeast Arkansas and Southern Missiouri. On July 5, 2025, St. Bernards will celebrate 125 years serving the Northeast Arkansas Community. Previous to his roles at St. Bernards, Michael worked for Encompass Health/HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospitals in Arkansas from 1995 to 1999. He also worked for Harding University in Searcy, AR from 1999 to 2001.
Michael serves on the Board of Governors of the American College of Healthcare Executives, an international professional society of more than 48,000 healthcare executives who lead hospitals, healthcare systems and other healthcare organizations. With comprehensive programs in credentialing, education, career counseling, publications and research, ACHE works toward its goal of being the preeminent professional society for leaders dedicated to advancing health. As a board member of ACHE, Michael has chaired the audit committee and has served on the finance committee. Michael's three year term as Governor will end with the 2025 Congress in Houston. Board certified in healthcare management as an ACHE Fellow, he served as the ACHE Regent for Arkansas from 2019 to 2022 and on various ACHE committees. Michael was also President of the Arkansas Health Executives Forum, an ACHE chapter, from 2014 to 2016, in addition to serving as the Chair of various chapter committees. He presently serves as a mentor for the ACHE Leadership Mentoring Network, and is a member of the ACHE of Arkansas Chapter.
In addition to his service to ACHE, Michael is the Northeast Arkansas district board representative for the Arkansas Hospital Association. Michael serves locally within the community, presently serving on the Connectivity Committee for the City of Jonesboro and the Quality of Life Committee for Jonesboro Unlimited. He is also a volunteer with El Centro Hispano, the Hispanic Center of Jonesboro, a member of the Jonesboro Regional Chamber of Commerce where he served as a past chairman, chairman for the Emerging Leaders Program through the Chamber of Commerce, a preceptor for MHA Administrative Fellows at the University of Alabama in Birmingham, a National Interscholastic Cycling Association Coach in Arkansas and an International Missions team leader. Michael has also served as an adjunct faculty member for both Arkansas State University and Harding University.
Michael has received several accolades during his career, including the Arkansas Hospital Association C.E. Melville Young Administrator of the Year in 2011, recognized as an “Outstanding Young Executive” by Arkansas Business in 2007, and named to the “40 Under 40” list by Arkansas Business in 2009. In addition, he has received the Service Award in 2011, Distinguished Service Award in 2015, and the Exemplary Service Award in 2021 through ACHE’s Recognition Program, as well as the Early Careerist Healthcare Executive Regent Award from ACHE in 2006.
Board certified in healthcare management as an ACHE Fellow, Michael earned his MBA from Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas, and his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
