Workforce
The phrase "do more with less" captures the pressure that healthcare systems are currently facing. In an ever-tightening labor landscape, rapidly increasing labor costs and provider burnout are putting additional strain on service and cost models. Not to mention, patient demands are quickly shifting as we witness a transition to value-based healthcare and a growing expectation of 24/7 and digital healthcare solutions. For many systems, the math simply doesn't work. This session will outline how to alleviate the provider labor supply/demand mismatch through the use of work redesign that identifies opportunities for automation, reallocation of non-value-add tasks to more cost efficient resources, and/or standardization and centralization. Presenters will also discuss approaches, including external and internal talent market data (geographic labor supply and demand and compensation trends, turnover drivers and creation of career pathways); forecasts of people needs, matched with a detailed analysis of future skills needed to deliver the system's strategy; identification of talent bottlenecks for prioritized work; quantifying change urgency and change readiness (how mindsets, culture and ways of working will need to shift to thrive in this evolving environment).
