Governance
Governance is a word that has multiple meanings depending upon the context. It determines the rules of engagement and sets the culture for how a group or organization is going to operate. The key to good governance is having components that rarely change as the bedrock and then other pieces that are reviewed and updated, including selection considerations and development of charter statements or guiding principles. This session will explore contemporary governance requirements in a fast-changing healthcare environment. It's common to draw a distinction between governance and management. This is a key concept to understand to ensure performance. In addition to the functional roles of a board of directors, governance can also be applied to service lines, programs and initiatives, which also need thoughtful modern governance structures to achieve their goals.
This session will share national best practices as well as the practical application of these concepts at a large regional healthcare system. We will discuss the outcomes achieved as a result of modern and effective governance for the board and key organizational initiatives, including academic partnerships and service lines.
