When Dr. Michael Sorrell accepted the position of president of Paul Quinn College, the future of the school remained in the balance. Graduation rates were low, academic standards had plummeted and there was almost no money left to operate. Despite uncertainty lurking at every corner, Dr. Sorrell succeeded in communicating his vision to the Paul Quinn community, and the school is now an example of academic excellence among HBCUs and small colleges. In this talk, Dr. Sorrell will focus specifically on the challenges of leading through change and times of uncertainty. Drawing from his own experiences leading at Paul Quinn College, he will offer valuable strategies for healthcare leaders on managing resistance, overcoming obstacles and seizing opportunities for growth and transformation amid the complexities and disruption that exist all around us. He inspires leaders to embrace the unknown, lead with empathy and drive positive change within their organizations and communities. His message is important for anyone to hear, but it is especially relevant for leaders who are entrusted with the well-being of others and sometimes neglect taking care of themselves.
