A leadership legacy represents the lasting impression one leaves on their colleagues, team members and the broader healthcare community. A strong personal leadership legacy can inspire others and shape the future of healthcare leadership. Leaders who actively consider their legacy are more likely to prioritize self-improvement, continuous learning and the intentional development of their leadership capabilities. Many leaders, however, consider their legacies by looking in the rearview mirror. In other words, executives think about what their legacy will be by looking back over the impact they've had when they are reaching the end of their administrative careers. What we know, however, is that a leader's legacy is a product of actions a leader takes in situations faced daily. This session is intended to reach leaders at all stages of their careers. This interactive session will highlight the importance of not only thinking about but also being intentional about one's leadership legacy throughout the various steps in the leadership journey. Seminar activities will include small-group discussions to gain insights from both the instructors and other leaders. Participants will also consider their own leadership legacy vulnerabilities—those things that take away the focus on creating their legacy. Participants will leave with practical tools as well as an understanding of a process to follow to create their own legacy day by day, not at the end of their career.
